For the month of November I’ve decided to post each day
about a person or people who have influenced my life for good. There’s no way I
could include each and every person in one month or even one year, and for that
I hope you’ll forgive me. This year, especially, has brought an acute awareness
of the kindness and generosity which surrounds me and my kids, so here’s one
attempt at giving thanks.
10 – Mark + Stephanie
They’re strong as a couple and they’re strong as individuals—a
beautiful balance of dependence and independence. Each driven, hard-working and
wicked-smart.
Mark had some great advice to give me when I was attending
UVU last year, as he was also a student there. He’s since graduated and is now
in law school, where I’m sure he’ll just kill it. He’s from New Zealand, and I’ve
heard he sometimes does an American accent but I’ve never heard it (though I’d
like to). And he makes the best meat pies. What’s a meat pie? Well…break it
down. That’s what it is. And Mark makes them and they’re delicious.
Stephanie is everything. How she can be so sincere, so kind,
and so sassy at the same time, I’ll never know—it must be a special blend of
science and magic. I always enjoy the Sunday school classes she teaches, and I
love what a strong, confident woman she is. She has intuition like few I’ve
encountered, and her head is on straight. Speaking of her head, THAT HAIR. I
hope that doesn’t come off as superficial, she’s just so beautiful. And she
always smells great.
You know those friends who notice an online post about
needing a cookie, and they show up with a cookie? That’s Stephanie. She’s also
the friend who helps you out with rides when you need them, and takes you to
look at a car someone’s selling on KSL. She’s a fantastically loyal and
thoughtful friend.
Because of her line of work, Stephanie helped me once when
my daughter was lost. I don’t know how much I should say about this, so I’ll
leave it at this: I will never, ever forget the feeling of relief and being
watched over I had that night, and Stephanie was key in that
experience.
The way they care for, love, and support each other is
beyond sweet, it’s inspiring. Working together, always.
