ode to northern mexico

Dear Last Handful of Days,

Thank you for your very detailed life lessons. Perhaps most importantly, thank you for teaching me to be thankful for the following things:

1. A pilot that knows how to navigate through the worst freaking storm in the history of flying, I'm sure...at least for me. And for the sense of self enough to not curse him out for not ascending quickly enough.

2. The Jones family who called El Paso from Phoenix and made sure there would be a rental car guy working so that we could get a car at 2:am.

3. The confirmation that I shall never again let Cheeze Nips in to my mouth.

4. Friends that love surprises and parties and bounce houses, and that will make decisions for me because I don't want to.

5. Traveling companions with more guts than me, especially when it comes to talking the vendors down for their crap that I so want to buy.

6. Naps on LoveSacs.

7. A steak dinner with a salad and a potato, and, yes, even peanut shells that you may throw onto the floor.

8. United States EPA air standards.

9. Cell service in Mexico.

10. 29 years without a sunburn, especially the 2nd-degree-ish purple kind.

11. Dr. Katz, the Duggar Family, and Lifetime Original Movies about Mary Kay Ash.

12. A husband that stays home with kiddos so that I can go cavorting around to celebrate World Cup game victories in various countries and such.

Fondly,

jennyfivetina

Bravo on your positive list! Sounds like a great time.
In regards to #12, You missed out on the husband having to take all 3 kids out of sacrament due to the crying of younger two. I think this just makes husband love you more. What do you think?

I have often gotten better cell reception in Mexico than at my house.

I had fun (because I am bossy.) Dr. Katz makes everything so squiggly-ish better.

I am thankful for air mattresses that work.

Welcome back.

I had the same aversion to Wheat Thins for years. But it went away when I discovered crab salad.

Re: deep purple sunburns. OUCH!

I heart the World Cup. I don't care who wins. I just love the mania. I still have my Pique lighter I got while in Belgium on my mission in '86 (still works too).

I guess that means I'm really old.

Great thankful list.

Cheese Nips... thbbbthbbthh...yuck.

I once mentioned the existence of LoveSacs, while talking to some of my colleagues in Lubbock and the looks I got from people....I think I added to the "Mormon" perception.

World Cup '94 in Brazil...when Brazil won. What a Crazy scene that was.

sue - I heard about that. I explained that when he's not at church with me we spend the entire first hour in the hallway (foyer?) on a couch (sofa?). It's just easier that way.

azucar - I'm so glad you were there. I was going to list that I am thankful for floors that don't poke me in the back.

compulsive - thank you. Yeah, I actually acquired the sunburn the day before I left, during a four-hour stint at Seven Peaks. Blisters, peeling...gross. My kids are now even more convinced that they should ALWAYS be wearing sunscreen. They've also volunteered to put some on my back when we go swimming so that this never happens again.

beans - that's what you get for partying all night with a dead limo driver.

lyle - I wonder if that was anything like when I lived in Chicago during the NBA finals in '96...nah. I'm sure what I saw was not even close.

Sheesh. I am sorry that the air mattress I borrowed for you on your first night was so horrid. What a princess. Next time I am at your house, I would like you to back away on your knees after you bring me choxie.

I had a dream that I was wearing a lot of layers. It just wasn't me.

~j. said...

'What a princess'? I don't mind sleeping on the floor. I just mind sleeping on the floor with my feet in the air. Don't mind it. That new one is made of steel.

"7. A steak dinner with a salad and a potato, and, yes, even peanut shells that you may throw onto the floor." Texas Roadhouse??

~j. said...

Yep, I'm pretty sure. It was like manna straight to my soul.

I was Texas Roadhouse.

And that air mattress was awesome because nothing is better than suffering for the sake of humor.

The hospitality couldn't be beat.

It was pretty funny. And we didn't mind, really.

I wish I would have taken more photos, and had a video so that I could have recorded Jooj.

Yeah, thanks for teaching her Boca and Nariz. Waldo will be getting his glass eye, soon, because her aim is not that accurate.

I went through withdrawal yesterday BIG TIME. I just laid in the Sac thinking that I was all alone, so I went to Target and tried to layer. It was not so good for me. Please send pictures so that I may copy.

Pork is good with cheese and sour cream. Oh yes. Almost as good as having your best friends live with you. Almost.

Carina said...

Better hurry up on that pork, even if you eat it for every meal, you won't be finished with it until 2007.

As for the layering thing, lets see if la cjane will show us ALL how it's done.

Pique. The Mexico '86 world cup mascot. I was still a kid growing up in Mexico. :)

Anyone in Argentina that year to worship soccer god Diego Armando Maradona and his Mano de Dios goal?
