Barnes & Noble is a great place to hang out. I have never been to a Borders...so I can't tell you. But I know that I really like Barnes & Noble...especially the cafe.
I was going to say Barnes and Noble until I saw everyone elses comments and since I really don't shop at either, I will go ahead and jump on the wagon. Borders.

Barnes & Noble. I like how it looks inside better. Is that a dumb reason?
Borders.
I've worked both places and Borders.
Borders.
I still have a bad taste in my mouth after B&N's creepy Twighlight party for book three.
Borders.
Neither. Amazon.com instead.

uhhhm, Independent bookstores? Oh that's right, there all gone now. sniff.
Borders.
Borders is much less trendy.
(for me, that's a good thing)
Borders is from Michigan and so am I. So Borders.
Although my heart really belongs to Amazon.
Library.
The King's English (oh that's not an option)
then Amazon (oh that's not an option either)
well in that case... Borders.
Whatever is closer...in my current case - Borders - but I buy mostly from Amazon.com
And... COSTCO books... I buy from them all the time.
I like Borders to browse in, Barnes & Noble.com to order online. We don't have a Borders here, so the point is moo.
PS my brother in law B-Rad works at the Provo Borders in the Cafe. And the year I worked at Borders was one of the most fun EVER.
Once I saw my linguistics professor at Barnes and Noble, and I asked if he could point me towards "Linguistics for Dummies."
The next day in class I mentioned that I had found a book there called, "Sex for Dummies."
In his characteristic, dry and circumspect way, he replied, "I hope it came in a plastic sleeve."
I'll never forget that. . . it was one of the highlights of my BYU education.
