I like...and I really hope I do (or don't do) these things.I'll have to ponder this some more...
I also like one of my mom's favorite quotes from Jackie Onassis that goes along with this. (Bearing in mind that I'm paraphrasing here...)
"The ultimate indication of good manners is the ability to help anyone feel comfortable in your presence."
That's what I aim for. For the most part, I think it works.
Genius. I'm sharing this on facebook now.
Yes! Two more years. Man. 25 must bite.
I think every 25-year-old should be handed a copy of this, laminated, on their birthday.
I thought it was great.
I know a 30-something who should read this (especially for #13, 19).
Although in this culture, we're always going to be helping people move - it's just how it's done.
Read this a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it.
That was brilliant. I agree that everyone should be given a copy of this on their 25th birthday. Or maybe earlier so they have time to prepare themselves.
LOVE IT!
I've read it, and overall I'm not a fan. I agree with some of the points, and disagree with others.
I find point 20 to be almost laughable. It reads, in part: "We all have bad days; yours is not weightier than anyone else's, comparatively, and does not excuse displays of poor breeding." I can sum up my view of this article by changing just a few words: We all have pet peeves; yours are not weightier than anyone else's, comparatively, and do not excuse displays of elitism.
Again, some of it I liked, some of it I did not.
(Surprise surprise, ~j and tio disagree on etiquette.)
I do, however, absolutely agree with the Jackie Onassis quote Lisa shared above.
Bravo! It kind of fit into my idea that adults who blame all sorts of disfunctions, co-dependencies, yadda, yaddas on poor childhood years should "GET OVER IT!" they are now grown up and can make a conscious decision. However, #2 made me wonder if it was directed at me. And I am not surprised there are parts that Tio disagrees with.
I need to share this with a female family member (38 yrs) who still acts like she's 25. 'Bunsies' must know the family member that I'm talking about - she's right on the button!
Good field trip
OH crap! I have got a lot of work to do. I will be 27 soon and I am failing miserably in almost everything. What to do...why didn't someone give this to me when I was 20 so I could work my way up to perfect?
I agreed with nearly all of it.
I also agree with Tio, a little high-horsey. I don't need anyone to tell me how to handle my trash or blow my nose, thank you. (I do have a trash receptacle and a box of kleenex...it's just not the hill I'm going to die on when judging others).
I LOVE the Jackie O. quote.
