Homework: ~Your grandma has just come to visit. She knows nothing about blogging, facebook, twitter, and she's pretty fuzzy about email. How would you explain your hobby? Prompt: "I know it seems like I'm just wasting time on the computer, but it's different. It's like_______."
I know it seems like I’m just wasting time on the computer, but it’s different. It’s like writing letters; a way of keeping in touch, but in a faster way.
When I write on my blog, it’s writing a story for anyone to read on their computers. They can access it on their computers at home, or, if I choose, I can make it private so that you’d need a password to be able to access it. What I put on the site can be anything – my thoughts and experiences (like a journal), photos (like a scrapbook), or fictional stories. It’s good writing practice, or a good outlet. (But it’s not always completely, COMPLETELY me, because I know I have an audience.)
Why would I do this? I like the feedback. I like knowing what other people think about what I’ve decided to share with them. Narcissism? Sure. But it’s also about communication and the practice of writing, of expression.
