helpy not helpy

A few months ago one of my kids spilled Dr. Pepper on my blackberry (and then tried to hide it from me, which was sweet), and there was no recovery. Almost immediately I went to buy a new phone and got one of those Fancy Schmancies that The Kids are using these days. Touch screen, slide-y keyboard, all the Features of which I totally know the names and absolutely use, and not just play mahjong. (you guys)

I have internet access on my phone, which kind of blows my mind when I think about it, but there it is. The convenience is that when I get an email, my phone lets me know and I'm able to check it - on my phone. This entire process, however, has proven problematic for me: I mean, while it's absolutely possible for me to reply to my email on my phone, I prefer to not do it; I'd rather wait until I can sit down with my laptop. And so I open my laptop and see that I don't have any unread email . . . because I already checked and read it on my phone . . . and then I forget to reply.

Oops.

I'm thinking that the solution is going to be an entire shift in the way I think about email.

Either that or a bunch of post-it notes to remind me.

Post it notes.... haha. My mom uses those for everything. Old school seems to work best. :)

What about you mark it as unread.

Or, what about you trade me phones.

Also, word mole beats mahjong's bahookie.

Elder Bednar's iPad? Explain!

Tori - exactly. Like, I've got this post-it app, but to be honest it's not as effective as actual post-its.

La Yen - Never thought to mark it as unread. I'll see if I can figure out how to do that on my phone. And word mole? Psh.

Naomi Miles - Yes. It's a li'l joke with my brother. One of his friends is Elder Bednar's son, and when Elder Bednar got an iPad, we joked about what it would be like to get an email which said, at the bottom, 'Sent from my iPad', and I decided to, when I remember, send things from Elder Bednar's iPad.

Welcome to my life for the past two years, since I got my Blackberry Pearl! I'm in Target, look at my phone, read through an email quickly, answer it in my head, then go on with my life. And I actually think that my head sent the email to the person, because I never understand why they email me again with the same question. I mean, who's the crazy one?

Aha!

Though my phone can use a fancy to-do list app, I still prefer pen and paper for that one! And I do check emails on my phone, answer the ones that won't take much time and save the others for when I come home. They're marked as read but they're still in my Inbox!

P.S. Those hang-ups are worth it when you can plan Angry Birds 24/7!

Maybe every time you write a check, you could leave a post-it in your Franklin Planner to remind you to return the emails.

This cracks me up. The other day I did actually stick a post-it note to my iPhone with someone's address on it. .. hmmm.

Old habits ...
