Promises, Promises

Ever heard of The Shubert Group? I hadn't either, and to be frank I still don't know really know who they are, only that when I got an email from Kristen Howerton telling me that this group would be providing me a ticket to see a Broadway show in August, I felt grateful. Grateful to the people/group I don't know.

Beggars can't be choosers, but MAN, I wanted to see In The Heights. Turns out that show isn't performed on Wednesday evenings (or something), so instead I got a ticket to Promises, Promises.

In full disclosure, I read a synopsis of this show on Wikipedia (so I KNOW it was true) before my trip. On that fateful Wednesday evening, as I walked from my hotel to the theater, I had a crazy slow-motion experience: I looked up, and with each step the building in front of me moved, making way for the marquee, which showed:
*GASP* Sean Hays and Kristin Chenoweth! (Really - gasp! My heart skipped a beat, my jaw dropped, and I caught my breath as my hand unintentionally cupped over my mouth.) Why is this so amazing for me? Because in some alternate life of mine, I'm dating both of them. I guess the fact that I didn't know they are in this show makes me a less than astute admirer.

I met up with Casey and we sat together. The opening sequence produced a smile on my face which made the corners of my mouth reach up almost to my tearing eyes.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I dozed off a bit toward the end of the first act, and I attribute this to the combination of redeye residual and adrenaline crash. During the second act, a highlight for me was when . . . well, watch this first:

The part where she passes the guitar to him? In the performance I saw, her bracelet got stuck on the guitar. It was quite a huge distraction, but they kept performing, like they do, and the guitar finally was set free and got a round of applause for doing so.

The show was absolutely fantastic, what a treat. After the show, on the walk back to the hotel, Casey took this photo of the two of us:

And then we looked down and saw a rat.

Thank you, Kristen! And thanks, Shubert Group!

So jealous! I bet that was amazing! I also have done the falling asleep during show's before you can't help it! It's dark and there are no kids around it is inevitable.

MommyJ - Thank you! That photo is now my twitter pic, I think it shows Casey and me really well. Isn't KC the best? I mean, put-her-in-your-pocket-and-take-her-home cute?!

Living the Scream - That is so true! Besides having flown all night & being extra tired from the excitement of being in the city, you put me in a dark room, completely comfortable...and that's what happens!

Wow! That is SO awesome! Someday, when I grow up, I'm going to visit NYC and take in a show. :)

Emily - And when you do, it will be well-deserved and you will LOVE it!

Kristen - Remind me which one you saw? I'm sad I missed out on the after-fondue.

I giggled through this entire post. My grandfather was the chairman of the board at Shubert for many years! He's still on the Board of Directors so I went to the opening of Promises, Promises.

It was freaking awesome! I love that show! I think my favorite was the choreography. It was just so FUN

Stepper - Casey pointed out the rat. I think he was on his way to cook up some gourmet dinner.

Molly - welcome! Well, thank you to your grandfather for an awesome experience. Can you tell me more about Shubert? I sincerely want to know.
