I've had to repent from my claim to have not wanted to listen to any Christmas music this season, and my redemption has come in the form of playing Mindy Gledhill's new album on repeat, and not only in preparation for Christmas, but in just plain old winter-wishing (which is what we do when we haven't had snow).
This new album is a fun mix of sing-along Christmas favorites ('Santa Claus is Comin' to Town') and enchanting lullaby-type tunes to melt away the stresses of the season. And that's all to say nothing of the original title track, though my kids prefer the bonus track version, featuring puppets as seen below in a video directed by the brilliant Chris Clark.
"But, Jenny," you say, "Christmas is over. Why on earth are you telling us about this new album?"
"Because," I answer, "it's not just a Christmas album, it's a perfect winter album, the type we all need to get us through until the beauty of spring makes its appearance in a few months."
Yes, I said need.
Yes, this is a giveaway.
To win a copy of Mindy Gledhill's Winter Moon CD, please leave a comment on this post telling me what kind of music you like to listen to when it's cold outside.

Good luck!
I love to listen to movie soundtracks--ones that make me feel cozy..... Pride & Prejudice, Legends of the Fall, etc.
ReplyDeleteAlso, today is our first real snow since Halloween, so I think it's a sign that this giveaway is mine! :)
Oh darn, I am the first commented which automatically means I don't win. :)
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't admit, but I have been listening to a whole lotta Disney tunes lately. Good for the kids, and I love belting out a good Beauty and the Beast number.
I am barely getting into the Christmas spirit (call me a late-bloomer) so this would be awesome. I like upbeat, happy music that makes me want to dance when it's chilly outside, but I like some soft, soothing sounds when I'm watching the snow fall.
ReplyDeleteI listen to a rather eclectic range of music. Depending on my mood, it can be anything from The Dropkick Murphy's to Barry Manilow. I do love Mindy Gledhill too! Winter seems to suck the life out of people. I am in favor of any music that wraps us in a soft blanket of loveliness!
ReplyDeleteI like anything upbeat in the winter to keep me from gloominess. I love anything Mindy Gledhill! Just got lower lights and have been listening to that a ton.
ReplyDeleteI have to keep it upbeat and happy! A little black eyed peas, fergie, and of course Mindy Gledhill. I need happy songs to keep me from getting cabin fever.... Wait... Too late... Already do ;)

Any sort of music that makes you want to cuddle up in a blanket with my hubby drinking hot chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I'd ever admit this...but I am liking jazz lately! When the weather is nasty out, and if time allows, I love to introduce my kids to old black and white movies. I guess since it matches outside on a snowy day. ;) I like the "big band jazz" from some of these shows.
ReplyDeleteSteph
I like listening to jazz standards during winter. They just feel right:-)
ReplyDeleteIt depends - if I'm cleaning or organizing, I like something loud with a good beat. If I am relaxing, I will listen to an instrumental soundtrack or some classical music. I secretly listen to holiday music all year long!
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of music. I love happy uplifting cute songs that make me smile and think of the people that I love :) Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI usually like something slow and calm, perfect for cuddling up with a blanket and relaxing!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love folk music, Elizabeth Mitchell, Nanci Griffith, and I think Mindy will soon be on my playlist!

Love to listen to Mindy Gledhill in any type of weather. I live in WA where we don't get very much sun but Mindy's music helps me to feel happy even on the gloomy days.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually care for the jingle-belly kind of music during the holiday season, when the weather cools, and the days get shorter, I prefer something that makes me feel like I'm cuddled in frong of a fireplace (especially when I'm at work)...I usually pull up soft Celtic music, Winter Solstice sounds. I appreciate the softer sweeter tunes, that fill my mind with simple gratitude. This past year, Mindy's music brought me those images. I would love to continue enjoying them throughout the year :)
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to Mindy :)
ReplyDeleteAll day, all the time!

The Nutcracker is a winter wonderland classic that I never tire of.
ReplyDeleteI like to listen to Christmas music year round, but my favorite when it's cold outside are old classics: Bing Crosby, Sinatra, Etta James... anything that gets me happy and makes me want to bake for my husband!
ReplyDeleteThe Nutcracker is a winter wonderland classic that I never tire of this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI usually listen to bluegrass in the winter, because I need some mental escapism. But I hear Mindy is just the gal for helping embrace this season, and I'd really like to find out. The Utah County gray needs some cheering. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, aside from Mindy (of course), I love listening to music like Narada, David Lanz, or Jon Schmidt. For some reason that music translates really well to me in the wintertime.

ReplyDeleteI like to listen to upbeat fun dance music because when it's cold outside, our house gets pretty cold too and we gotta stay warm somehow!
ReplyDeleteI started listening to Christmas music like a mad woman the end of September, I LOVE it, and listen to it and sing it all year long! Though When I'm not listening to Christmas music I am literally listening to Mindys cd anchor which is curently in my player right now, or anything really that I can sing and dance too :-D I love all music and would love to add her Christmas album to my collection!!!! :)

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite albums is Enya's And Winter Came. And i especially like the title track, such a beautiful piano piece!
And Mindy is simply enchanting!
Honestly, Mindy's cd's are the only ones occupying my cd player in my house at the moment! AND Santa didn't bring me her new one this year! :(
ReplyDeleteDuring winter, I need happy music. My kids keep requesting lenka right now, so that's what we listen to.
ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying a Charlotte Church Pandora station I created a little while ago; it has artists like Susan Boyle, Lucia Micarelli, Jackie Evancho, and Camilla Kerslake on it!

ReplyDeleteI don't really have a type of music I listen to when it's cold outside, but right now I am obsessed with The Killers and Brandon Flowers. Not only is Brandon Flowers very good looking with a unique heart-melting voice, but the style that his band he has is very catchy and the lyrics actually have depth and thoughtful meanings behind them.
ReplyDeleteBNL Pandora Station. And Dan Zanes. And Curse that Mindy Gledhill for announcing this on Twitter so now I have very little chance of winning this.

ReplyDeleteWhen it's cold I feel like listening to songs that are joyful and happy. Songs that make me want to dance. Of course right now I can't think of any, but maybe that's because it's 30 degrees and hot outside. Thank you for this awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on my mood. Jazz works well when the snow is falling.
ReplyDeleteCold music? Is there such a thing? I don't think I have specific music I listen to when it is cold - I'd probably grab something instrumental to watch the snow fall. I had to buy Mindy's album before Christmas and listened to it tons and still now in Jan. I'd love to win a copy to give to my sister though.
ReplyDeleteI love Mindy Gledhill! We have been listening to the Nutcracker music quite a bit this winter. My 3 year old went to the ballet for the first time and has decided she loves it!
ReplyDeleteDuring the winter I am guilty of listening to Christmas music far longer than I probably should. Seeing that this year we hardly have any snow I am in need of some new tunes to brighten up the drab winter! Mindy has such cheerful sound which is just what I need! In the meantime I will stick to my Josh Groban albums. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen it's cold out, I enjoy a lot of classical stuff. It just seems to fit my mood. P.S. LOVE me some Mindy as well!
