I remember the first time I encountered Gymboree. 

I was 18, and was working as a part-time nanny (went to their house during the day but went home at night). The family I worked for had three kids: four-year-old girl, a three-year-old boy, and a newborn girl. One day we went to a mall (not the usual mall; we drove at least an hour) and headed for a children's clothing store I had never heard of, and which the woman I worked for couldn't stop talking about. As soon as we walked in I understood why she was so excited. 

I was torn between wanting to have kids of my own to dress and wanting to BE a kid so I could wear the clothes I saw.

The colors - the colors! I loved how bright they were, just as kids' clothes should be. But more than that, they all coordinated with each other. The dresses, the leggings, the pants, the shirts -- a complete mix-and-match set, all of it. Prints and solids and stripes, I just wanted to grab it all and dress SOMEONE. Luckily, the woman I was with purchased enough that it made days getting the kids ready for the day really fun: the kids could pick out their own clothes, and whatever they chose, it looked GREAT! Easy, and everybody wins.

Now that I've been a mom for almost 14 years, shopping at Gymboree has been a treat. Their clothes are well-made and withstand, you know, the stuff kids do to their clothes. When I ask another mom where they got their kid's cute outfit, I'm never surprised when the answer is, "Gymboree." And I'm happy for them when they tell me about the good deals they got on their purchase.
