For the month of November I’ve decided to post each day
about a person or people who have influenced my life for good. There’s no way I
could include each and every person in one month or even one year, and for that
I hope you’ll forgive me. This year, especially, has brought an acute awareness
of the kindness and generosity which surrounds me and my kids, so here’s one
attempt at giving thanks.
3 – Norma
Norma’s the closest thing to Heaven you or I will ever
encounter, of this I am certain.
She’s soft-spoken and …well, I was going to say she’s small,
because I (not a tall person) am taller than her, but she’s a giant. She’s
mighty. Fierce. Any time she gets a microphone she also gets my rapt attention.
She’s said she doesn’t like speaking in front of groups, but learning at Norma’s
feet is where I like to be during a class, if I can help it.
I see her at church, I see her at the temple (where she
works sometimes), and I see her at the election polls (which is where I snagged
this picture today, please forgive me, Anyone). She’s fascinating and brilliant
and…light. Norma is light.
One of my favorite memories is of when I asked her, at a
church activity, if she had heard that it had been announced that a woman would
be praying at the upcoming General Conference, and the way she shared my
excitement about it.
Thanks, Norma. I love you.
